Estos cuentos nacen en la región de Valparaíso, cuya vocación marítima
se representa a menudo por una gaviota. De ahí el título de uno de los relatos y del libro. El adjetivo «miope» califica esa mirada que, aun desde lo alto, no
es necesariamente libre o infinita. Si bien los conflictos encuentran alivio en la belleza del paisaje y la tranquilidad regional, enfrentan al mismo tiempo límites ineludibles.
Así, mientras en los relatos de adultos asoman dificultades sociales, económicas, afectivas y de género, en los de niños y adolescentes se
plantea el trance de la iniciación al mundo de los mayores. En estos cuentos, el arraigo regional dialoga con lo universal, de modo que sus miradas agudas, nostálgicas o desorientadas trascienden la geografía para hablar de lo que
nos define en cualquier lugar: la lucha por la identidad, el peso de las circunstancias y la búsqueda de sentido en un mundo que a veces nos restringe.
