Kummeroog ist eine verschlafene Nordseeinsel. Doch Mitte der 90er Jahre ändert sich das plötzlich. Es scheint, als ob rätselhafte Geschäfte, die Reedereivorstand Edmund Kuper mit dem Bürgermeister von Kummeroog, dem Kurdirektor und dem Sprecher der Vermieter verabredet, dazu führen, dass die Insel zu einem blühenden Ferienparadies wird. Aber geht dabei alles mit rechten Dingen zu? Nicht nur Kupers Sekretärin Erika Halwasser kommt das merkwürdig vor. Lokalredakteur Manfred Heidemeyer recherchiert die Hintergründe und vermutet bald, einer gro en Sache auf der Spur zu sein, in die sogar die Spitze der Kreisverwaltung verstrickt ist. Doch bevor er seine Enthüllungsstory schreiben kann, geschieht Unfassbares im Büro von Edmund Kuper. Die Geschichte in "Goldküste" ist erfunden. Trotzdem hat Karin Lüppen sich nicht alles ausgedacht. Vieles hat sich so oder ähnlich tatsächlich zugetragen, wenn auch nicht zur selben Zeit und nicht am selben Ort.
