NOTE: This is a bilingual English/Spanish publication Homer is a real character who provokes joy, sorrow, laughter, excitement, and love with his sincere honesty. He is a real dog owned by the author and much of his story is based on true events. Homer was born and bred to be a guide dog . With his outgoing personality, he easily wins the hearts of his “Puppy Family” the Capucci’s. However, he must leave to begin his guide dog training. Throughout his training it becomes evident that he has eating challenges which prevent him from continuing his program. Regardless, Homer discovers that he has other strengths which make him just as precious as the other dogs, and he lives a very fulfilling life! The author is a Special Education Teacher and is accustomed to helping children identify their strengths and use them to assist in areas of need. Homer’s story teaches children that we are not all good at everything, but we are very good at some things. It encourages children not to be discouraged when they fail, but to look for what they do well and develop those skills. We all have something to contribute, and although we are not equal, we are all equally important ! Homero es un personaje real que provoca alegría, tristeza, risa, emoción y amor con su honestidad sincera. Él es un perro real propiedad del autor y una gran parte de su historia se basa en eventos reales. Homero nació y fue criado para ser un perro guia. La autora es maestra de Educación Especial y está acostumbrada a ayudar a los niños a identificar sus puntos fuertes y utilizarlos para ayudar en áreas de necesidad. La historia de Homero enseña a los niños que no todos somos buenos en todo, pero somos muy buenos en algunas cosas. Animar a los niños a no sentirse desanimados cuando fallan, sino buscar lo que hacen bien y desarrollar esas habilidades. Todos tenemos algo que contribuir y aunque no somos iguales, ¡Todos somos igualmente importantes!.
