Uno de los Diálogos más famosos y de mayor trascendencia de Platón (427-347 a.C.) es posiblemente La República. De carácter utópico, aun cuando probó ponerla en práctica, el tema fundamental es el de la justicia, entendida como “aquello que le corresponde hacer” a cada uno según su constitución natural y sobre las bases constitutivas y organizativas del Estado ideal. También pasa revista a las diversas formas de gobierno vigentes en su época para contextualizar sus ideas y usa como pasaje central del diálogo, y de base para sustentar sus teorías, el no menos famoso “mito de la caverna”.
