Originaire du lac Debo, Bari Foono se croyait invincible et inégalable. Maka Booté résidait à Bamba-goungou, une petite île à l'endroit même où le fleuve forme une boucle pour se diriger vers l'Est. Ce grand et redoutable sorko affrontait et massacrait toute âme qui oserait le contester. Et tout se soumettait à sa volonté hommes, djinns, eau, feu, terre, pluie, vent ...Furieux de savoir qu'il avait un rival, Bari Foono alla donc se mesurer au 'Géant-à-la-Grosse-Cuisse-Maître-des-eaux-du-Dendi'. Alors, ils s'affrontèrent et se massacrèrent.
