Synopsis "Math That Makes Sense Book Three: Accessing Basic Mathematical Concepts in Common Everyday Language"

This is the third book in the Math That Makes Sense series. Throughout the process of creating these books, it has become more clear to me that I want to help students learn math at the earliest stages in their education. Oftentimes, when I finally get to teach a student at the secondary level their math anxiety is so high that it takes a great amount of effort on my part to crack into the walls they have built for themselves in order to teach them mathematical concepts. Clearly I cannot teach math to every third grade student in the country, but what I can do is provide this information to as many elementary school math teachers as possible. Math That Makes Sense Book Three presents the topics of Building a Common Denominator, Percent Increase and Decrease, Absolute Value, Intercepts, Vertical and Horizontal Lines, Right Triangles, Special Right Triangles, Right Triangle Trigonometry, Casting out Nines, Functions, Input and Output, Graphing Different Types of Functions and Inverses. Ms. Newmyer completed her undergraduate education with a double major in mathematics and social studies with an emphasis in secondary education from Adams State University in the year 2000. She also completed her graduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2010. Ms. Newmyer has been teaching Mathematics at the secondary level since 2000. Ms. Newmyer's professional passion is accessible mathematics education for all students from elementary school to college. This book is designed for math learners of all ages and abilities.
