Dieses Buch befasst sich mit Methicillin-resistenten Staphylokokken. S. aureus ist ein wichtiger Krankheitserreger für den Menschen. Er wurde 1880 in Aberdeen, Schottland, vom Chirurgen Sir Alexander Ogston in Eiter aus chirurgischen Abszessen entdeckt. Fast jeder Mensch erkrankt im Laufe seines Lebens an einer Infektion mit S. aureus, die von leichten Hautinfektionen wie Pickeln, Impetigo (kann auch durch Streptococcus pyogenes verursacht werden), Furunkeln, Zellulitis, Follikulitis, Karbunkeln, Scalded-Skin-Syndrom und Abszessen bis hin zu lebensbedrohlichen Erkrankungen wie Lungenentzündung, Meningitis, Osteomyelitis, Endokarditis, toxischem Schocksyndrom (TSS) und Septikämie. Staphylococcus aureus ist einer der wichtigsten resistenten Erreger. Er kommt auf den Schleimhäuten und der Haut von etwa einem Drittel der Bevölkerung vor und ist äu erst anpassungsfähig gegenüber Antibiotika. Methicillin-resistenter Staphylococcus aureus ist ein Bakterium, das für schwer zu behandelnde Infektionen beim Menschen verantwortlich ist. Die Querschnittsstudie wurde durchgeführt, um die Prävalenz von MRSA-Infektionen der Haut und/oder Weichteile bei HIV-Patienten zu ermitteln.
