Alfonso Reyes Ochoa (Monterrey, 1889 – Mexico City, 1959) was a distinguished Mexican writer, essayist, poet, and diplomat, considered one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Latin American literature. Founding member of El Colegio Nacional and creator of El Colegio de México, his work ranges from literary criticism to philosophy and poetry. Among his most recognized titles are Visión de Anáhuac (1917), Ifigenia cruel (1924), El deslinde (1944), La experiencia literaria (1942), Cartilla moral (1952), and Memorias de cocina y bodega (1953). His legacy is compiled in the Obras completas, published by Fondo de Cultura Económica.

Reyes was awarded the National Literature Prize in 1945 and the Manuel Ávila Camacho Literature Prize in 1953. Additionally, he received honorary doctorates from universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and the Sorbonne. His scholarly yet accessible style made him a bridge between classical tradition and literary modernity. His influence endures in Mexican culture and contemporary Hispanic thought.
