A mordida profunda, ou sobremordida profunda, é uma má oclusão vertical caracterizada pela sobreposição excessiva dos incisivos superiores sobre os incisivos inferiores em oclusão cêntrica, excedendo frequentemente um terço da altura da coroa dos incisivos inferiores. Pode ser de origem dentária, resultante da sobreerupção dos dentes anteriores ou da infra-oclusão dos dentes posteriores, ou de origem esquelética, associada a uma altura facial anterior inferior reduzida e a um padrão de crescimento horizontal da mandíbula. A mordida profunda pode levar a trauma dos tecidos moles, impacto palatino, desgaste incisal e disfunção da articulação temporomandibular. O tratamento depende da etiologia e da gravidade e pode envolver intrusão ortodôntica dos dentes anteriores, extrusão dos dentes posteriores, modificação do crescimento ou cirurgia ortognática em casos esqueléticos graves.
