Juan Rulfo, Mexican writer and photographer, is a key figure in 20th-century Latin American literature. Although his published work is brief —El Llano en llamas (1953) and Pedro Páramo (1955)—, its impact was monumental.

His stories, set in post-revolutionary rural Mexico, blend realistic harshness with supernatural elements, creating a universe where the living and the dead coexist. Pedro Páramo, in particular, revolutionized Spanish narrative with its fragmentary structure and poetic style, influencing generations of writers.

A reserved and observant man, Rulfo portrayed like no other the loneliness, injustice, and silent resistance of the peasants. His prose, seemingly simple, hides a depth that continues to resonate in contemporary literature.
