Jahrhunderts vor: Friedrich Wilhelm Zachariä (1726-1777) verfa te zwischen 1754 und 1772 vier Fassungen seines hexametrischen scherzhaften Heldengedichts Der Phaeton. Heinrich Gottfried Reichard publizierte 1780 seine neulateinische Übersetzung Phaethontis libri quinque. Dieses Buch enthält neben deutschem und lateinischem Text im Paralleldruck Rezeptionsdokumente, Ausblicke auf die vier französischen Bearbeitungen des Phaeton, einen Kommentar zu ausgesuchten (komisch-)epischen Elementen und eine metrische Analyse des Phaeton im Spiegel zeitgenössischer metrischer Handbücher.
