Auch spter nahm er immer wieder in Berlin Quartier. 1931 wurde er Prsident der Sektion Dichtkunst in der Berliner Akademie der Knste, zwei Jahre spter zwang ihn die Naziherrschaft zum Verlassen des Landes. Berlin "war die menschlichste der Stdte", schrieb er 1949 rckblickend ber die "geliebte Hauptstadt".Dieser Band versammelt Texte aus Essays, Briefen, Vortrgen und aus Heinrich Manns Autobiographie "Ein Zeitalter wird besichtigt".
