Through their actions, the armed groups have negatively influenced and continue to influence the development of the territory of Shabunda; they have been creating permanent instability there for many years. This instability has had disastrous consequences, particularly at the political, administrative, security and economic levels. This state of affairs prevents the public authorities and the local population from exploiting the multiple natural potentialities with a view to boosting its development. This explains to some extent the underdevelopment of this territory. Therefore, it is important that the state wakes up, restores peace and encourages the development of this territory by involving the local populations, as Bawili Lukele Tango also points out. As peace is a prerequisite for any development process, this book sets out some sustainable strategies that should lead to the development of the territory. These strategies are the establishment of true democracy, territorial reconciliation and the resolution of other internal problems (poverty reduction, respect for human rights, education in the culture of peace, etc.).
