Synopsis "Short Poems"

Some things don't need a whole page. Sometimes five or six lines say it all.¿Short Poems is a one-of-a-kind collection of 66 bite-size poems, every one of them illustrated with an original hand-drawn cartoon by the author. Allen C. Frieson writes about the stuff real people deal with every day: kids and phones, bills and being broke, bad dads and good news, the police, the job, the rapper on the corner, the wife, the girlfriend, the dog, the Bible that's "somewhere," and the God who keeps showing up anyway. The poems are short on purpose. Each one is a snapshot - a thought, a question, a joke, a prayer - written in plain street language and finished before you expect it to end. Titles like "Fat-Phat," "Kids Nowdays," "Kitchen Closed," "Remote Control," "College Degree," "Trade School," "Black Lives," "Be Happy" and "One Day I Will" give you the whole range: laugh-out-loud one minute, honest and humble the next.Every page is colour, drawn in a loose crayon-and-marker cartoon style that makes the book feel like a sketchbook you've been handed by a friend. It's a quick read you'll pick up again and again - flip to any page, read a poem, look at the picture, and move on with your day a little lighter.Perfect for readers who don't think they like poetry, for anyone who loves cartoons, and for gift-giving.
