J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) was an influential British writer, poet, philologist, and professor, famous for his heroic fantasy works. Among his most notable creations are “The Hobbit”, “The Lord of the Rings” (epic trilogy), and “The Silmarillion”, which explore the world of Middle Earth.

Professor at the University of Oxford and member of the literary group the Inklings (with C.S. Lewis), Tolkien was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1972. His work has marked a milestone in fantasy literature.

Excellent deluxe edition of The Hobbit. The slipcase is very sturdy and well made, the book fits inside comfortably. The book itself has a lovely smooth paper like cover with gold lettering and symbols. Beautiful gold and red drawing of Smaug on book cover and slipcover. The pages are very good quality with clear text. This particular edition is printed and bound in Italy and is the 13th impression. It was originally issued in 2004.
