The Ordinary Things We Kept - Kelly Leigh

Kody has spent years learning the smallest things about Mavis: the way she steals food from his plate after insisting she isn't hungry, the way she leans against him when she is tired, and the way she somehow turns even the most uneventful afternoon into something worth remembering.

At the beginning of their final year of high school, Mavis tells him she is afraid of forgetting those ordinary moments. Her solution is simple: make more memories.

Neither of them knows how quickly that promise will begin to matter.

When Mavis pushes her twin brother, Maverick, out of the path of an oncoming car, she is struck instead, leaving the life they knew behind in a matter of seconds. What follows is a long and uncertain journey through hospital rooms, rehabilitation, damaged nerves, a weakened heart, and a future that refuses to look the way any of them imagined.

As Mavis begins documenting their days through photographs, the camera becomes more than a birthday gift. It becomes a way of holding onto the people, laughter, arguments, and imperfect moments that might otherwise disappear.

The Ordinary Things We Kept is a heartbreaking story about first love, family, grief, and the quiet moments that become precious only after we realize they were never guaranteed.
