Carl Friedrich Keil (February 26, 1807 – May 5, 1888) was a German Lutheran theologian and exegete, known for his conservative approach to the interpretation of the Old Testament. Born in Lauterbach, Saxony, he studied theology at the universities of Dorpat and Berlin. In 1833, he took up the chair of oriental languages and biblical exegesis at the University of Dorpat, where he taught for 25 years. In 1859, he moved to Leipzig to focus on his studies and the internal affairs of the Lutheran Church. In 1887, he moved to Rödletz, where he continued his literary work until his death.

His most notable work is the "Commentary on the Hebrew Text of the Old Testament," co-written with Franz Delitzsch. This extensive work, originally published in German in the second half of the 19th century, covers a detailed analysis of the books of the Old Testament, including the Pentateuch and the historical books. The commentary is characterized by a deep exegesis based on the Hebrew text, supplemented with references to ancient translations such as the Septuagint and the Vulgate. This work has been translated into Spanish and remains an essential reference in theological and biblical studies.
