What if the extraordinary abilities of insects could be transferred into a human being? Seventeen-year-old Ryan Hale never expected his father's secret scientific research to change his life forever. Dr. Adrian Hale had developed a revolutionary formula capable of transferring the remarkable abilities of insects into humans. But before he could decide what to do with his discovery, Adrian was killed in a mysterious car accident-and his research disappeared with him. Months later, Ryan discovers his father's hidden laboratory, encrypted notes and the perfected formula Adrian had secretly protected. At first, Ryan refuses to touch it. But when former scientist Dr. Marcus Vane uses an unstable version of the experiment to transform himself into the terrifying Scorpion-X, Ryan realizes the city may have no one else capable of stopping him. Taking the greatest risk of his life, Ryan combines the formula with spider DNA. He wakes up changed. Enhanced strength. Lightning-fast reflexes. Wall-climbing abilities. Biological web fibers. Heightened senses. And an extraordinary ability to detect movement through vibrations. But having powers does not automatically make Ryan a hero. By day, he is still a teenager dealing with school, science competitions, his growing feelings for Maya Reed, and the nonstop jokes of his best friend Noah Brooks. By night, he becomes the mysterious young protector the city soon calls The Web Boy. When Scorpion-X discovers that Ryan possesses Adrian Hale's perfected formula, the battle becomes personal. Marcus wants more than power-he intends to combine multiple insect abilities, unleash a neural venom across the city and take control of millions of people.
