Synopsis "When Legends run Free"

WHEN LEGENDS RUN FREE features a team of high-achieving cross country runners who strive for success under the guidance of Coach John Mosley, whose fundamental idea is "Good is the greatest enemy of excellence." The squad includes a guy who loves to quote Shakespeare and a couple of dependable never-let-you-down types. There is an ROTC guy with a feisty gymnastics girlfriend and a teammate who doesn't use his real name. Things get serious when the school's administration moves from NCAA Division II to Division I. At this point, the story plays out against the backdrop of an administration that intends to drop the cross country and track as well as the women's gymnastics team in order to use the money for those programs to upgrade a mediocre football program. The book explores the lives of college athletes as they strive to excel and attempt to deal with the decisions made by the university's administration.
