Stephen Nachmanovitch is a violinist, composer, writer, digital artist, and educator. Born in 1950, he studied at Harvard University and Columbia University, where he earned a Ph.D. in the History of Consciousness. He has taught and lectured on creativity and the spiritual and social dimensions of art. Since 1970, he has given countless improvised concerts on violin, viola, and electric violin, as well as workshops and classes at conservatories, universities, and other institutions worldwide. He has made numerous appearances on radio, television, and at music and theater festivals, presenting programs that combine art, music, literature, and computer technology. In addition to live concerts and his work as a writer, he is actively involved in the field of "visual music," creative video, and computer software that integrates original music and graphics.
